Transparency, 2023, Watercolour & Ink on Graphix Duralar Clear Sheets, 7x7cm

The figure is complex and irreplicable. When an artist prepares to draw a model, not only is their point of view unique, but their interpretation as well. What I wanted to capture in my work is this variety. I decided to do this by creating an interactable piece with a total of 202 individual, translucent slides, with each one containing an abstract drawing of the same pose. These sheets are also square to allow the viewer to twist and turn for further combinations. The purpose is to play and layer the different sheets in an attempt to reproduce a figure that is unique to each person. As for the materials, I used watercolour and ink on Graphix Duralar clear sheets and sprayed a layer of Lascaux fixative overtop to make them more durable for handling by viewers. This was presented with an overhead projector as the light screen is helpful in viewing the tiles clearly and without glare while the projection itself is an extension of interpretation the audience can make. In summary, my project discusses the individuality and complexity of the human being through a series of translucent, abstract paintings that, when overlapped, shape a figure.

A looping video of all photographed tiles. Each tile is different in colour, shape, and transparency.
